What are the most effective methods for promulgation of the Law of Thelema? What methods reach the most people, retain the most attention (i.e. what makes people the most interested in Thelema), apply to various "categories" of people (race, sex, religion, occupation, etc.), etc etc
Is joining the OTO? Passing out Epistles? Holding classes? Passing out/putting up flyers?

The most effective methods for promulgation of the Law of Thelema is to use quotes, use fliers, posts on Clist, blogs etc.
To teach people that they are viable in their own Will, not in the mask of other's Wills upon them.
When I sign off or on 93 - people ask what it means. I tell them about Thelema. Classes are great too. But most people don't have time for "official" classes. So an online forum is great.

All the facets of Crowley's life should be investigated and his accomplishments & thoughts on each (in relation to the Law of Thelema) should be shown to those in particular fields
Crowley's poetry could be discussed with poetry experts & enthusiasts
Crowley's mountain climbing coudl be discussed with mountain climbers
Crowley's magick can be discussed with occultists
Crowley's philosophy can be discussed with philosophers
Crowley's influence on art & music can be discussed with artists & musicians
etc.
In this way, Crowley's name will slowly be 'cleared' (people will recognize his real accomplishments and the media smeers will slowly be revealed for what they are), and Thelema will permeate all facets of human life from mountain climbing to magick.

93, "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law." Thanks for your contribution Victus. Personally, I think that all "methods" are potentially valid in the promulgation of the Law. I chose to work in video format because I felt that it was a media that was virtually untapped, and that it would be benificial to many to be able to watch readings of the material, as ours is a very audio/visual world. However, many different methods are effective and indeed required in order to hasten the spread of the Law (There is a long road ahead of us). Thanks for creating this site Victus, and feel free to post any of my videos at your leisure. I have found the best method for sharing the wisdom of Thelema is to do so with others in conversation without revealing Crowley as the source until the other member of the conversation has agreed with the wisdom without knowing it's true source. Nothing pleases me more than having this happen and being able to share having rattled preconceptions of the man by people who don't know his work.

You bring up an interesting point which is that people are often averse to the character of Crowley, through the media smears ("Wickedest Man Alive" "Black Magician" "Sex cult" etc.) and other rumors/lies. What is great about Thelema is that it works, and it doesn't matter who said it. "Success is your proof." Thelema solves social, ethical, political, etc. problems and the name Aleister Crowley need not even come up in conversation (although he IS our prophet and he DID bring the Law to us, so it would be disingenuous to say he had nothing or little to do with it). It is a good 'tactic' to bring up the tenets of Thelema without the name of Crowley to those who would be initially averse. We shouldn't try to ostracize Crowley the man, I think, for that would create a divide within ourselves - he was a great intelligent sometimes cruel often misunderstood man: he certainly is a great role model for the "fulfillment of infinite possibilities" that is available to all people (don't imitate Crowley but see his life as a reflection of the attainment of one's highest possibilities!) -V. |

Crowley looked into the abyss and it looked back..That will change a person forever your life becomes it's own test strip everything is lived in extremes. The walk between worlds brings out the best and worst in all of us and usually both at the same time. Saints are not remembered as such by their peer for a reason. The man must cease for the mythos to live. Crowley and his real or imagined antics are too recent in pop culture to be appreciated by some but not all. There were 12 apostles not 12,000 for a reason.

I think the best way is to try and be a living example.
Public performance of rituals, workshops, study groups, art exhibitions etc etc. will be helpful in drawing attention but if behind all this the person offering is "unfit" in the eyes of the seeker, these may turn away in disappointment..

93, So far, people have listed these methods for promulgation: - Use quotations
- Use/put up fliers
- Post on Craigslist
- Write blogs
- Write on online forums
- YouTube videos
- Conversations (without mentioning Crowley)
- Act as an example for others, so that they 'emulate' our joy
Quotations, blogs, and online forums are all very interesting and certainly very effective - but who are these quotations, blogs, etc. aimed at? There can only be two groups: Already existing Thelemites, and people who have not heard of Thelema yet. In the first category, we want to wash away the various superstitions, dogma, complexities, etc. around Thelema and in the second category we want to bring others to the Law of Thelema so they too can have a joyous life of love under will. How would this be most effective? What blogs and online forums would be best for these ideals to be accomplished? Are there specific forums that would be worthwhile (its a big difference to talk about Thelema on a forum about occultism than a forum about Catholicism, for example)? What Craigslist posts should be made? What kind of videos should be made? The youtube channels HeruTV & Frater Oz already exist - what other types of videos could be made? -V. |

I know there is a pdf out there that goes line by line with the bill of rights and how it can sync with the Book of The Law, I am going to try to find it and mass post it. Doing so on youtube with music might be a good idea. I also left copies of the Epistle at both our local copy shops and Masonic lodges. Any song suggestions?
